Doing Your “Best” Isn’t Always Enough

Preparation & Perseverance = Keys to Success

Today I want to discuss drive and ambition  when we give it our all, and then the need to give just a little more. I came across an amazing article recently that truly encapsulates the idea of success. John DiJulius, International Customer Experience Consultant and best-selling author, captured what it takes to really do your best. Once you read this article, you’ll understand why saying, “I gave it my best” is sometimes just not enough.

rock-climbing-691159_1280

As you read the article, which you should read it a few times (don’t worry, it’s short!), think about what it says. While it sounds odd to hear someone say, “Your best is not good enough,” if you really think about it, it makes perfect sense. When you are facing a rock wall, don’t just say you did what you could but simply fell short. Instead, find a solution and bust that wall down, climb over it, go around it, or do whatever you need to do to find that solution. Yes, it will take preparation, hard work, and possibly even sacrifice. But it will be worth it when you find success! You have what it takes…now go do it!

Are You Ready to Be Inspired?

An Interview With Andrea Vecchio - A True Inspiration

Friends, I have a special treat for you this week. I would like to introduce you to Andrea Vecchio.  Andrea is an Emmy-nominated journalist who has served as a television broadcaster, producer, and film critic. During this time, she had the opportunity to interview countless celebrities around the world, including such household names as Meryl Streep, Russell Crowe, Robert DiNiro, Jennifer Aniston, to name a few.

While everything was seemingly going well in her life, a two-week span caused her life to come to a screeching halt. She found herself in the midst of career, relational, and health chaos.

I had the amazing opportunity to interview Andrea to discuss how she pulled herself up from the ashes to live a beautiful and fulfilling life. Starting today, we are going to air a 2-part interview series, and I am confident that her book, Live Your Playlist, and her message will resonate with everyone. She talks about all of the hard subjects – dealing with bad relationships, overcoming self-doubt, making huge changes in your life, forgiving others, and so much more.

I hope you enjoyed this first interview where Andrea opens up and shares all…how she has learned to become stronger and wiser. She will truly inspire you to “live your playlist” as she is now living hers.

Be sure to come back tomorrow when we will post Part 2 of my interview with Andrea. It was so good, we had to split it into two parts!

Sharpening the Saw

The Art of Self-Renewal

You spoke, and we listened! In our recent survey, a resounding majority of people desire Inspirational messages – those that can be applied toward both your personal and professional lives.  So, for this week’s Inspiration, I want to discuss with you the importance of Sharpening the Saw.

In Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, he talks about how truly effective people have to have balance in both their personal and professional lives. One of the seven habits he recommends you adopt to achieve a healthy balance is Sharpening the Saw, meaning you need to preserve and attend to your most important asset – you. By making time for self-renewal, you will not only benefit yourself, but you will also be able to serve your clients and coworkers with a renewed excitement and vigor. But, Friends, it all starts with you.

Be sure to leave some comments for us below. We love hearing from you and enjoy reading your comments each week!

Wigs for Kids

Paying It Forward

The effects of hair loss go deeper than just a change in a child’s outward appearance. Hair loss can erode children’s self-confidence and limit them from experiencing life the way they should. That’s why we want to tell you about Wigs for Kids, a nonprofit charitable organization that has been providing wigs to children suffering from hair loss at no charge to the families.

Giving to others or “paying it forward” is something most of us aspire to do. But in this inspirational video we found on YouTube, a little girl teaches us in less the 2 minutes how to get it done. She demonstrates the power of giving back and thinking of others. She is the very definition of “paying it forward.” I guarantee you that it will warm your heart.

First, though, if you have any interest in being a part of an organization that also strives to pay it forward by giving to children, then we would like you to look at what Wigs for Kids has to offer.  We not only a give a handmade wig for free to those children who have lost their hair, but we also see how this gift gives them their smile and self-esteem back. They have a chance to once again look themselves and live their lives fully, as they were intended to do.

Under the “Resources” section below, click on the link to learn more about Wigs for Kids, this non-profit organization I founded over 35 years ago for children from all over the world experiencing hair loss. Learn more how you can become a part of our Team and help transform these children…and be transformed yourself. While you are at the Wigs for Kids website, be sure to look around. I am confident you will be inspired and truly blessed by the videos and stories of our kids.

Qualities of Leadership

The Sky is the Limit

Welcome, Team!  Let’s think about the word “team” for a minute. For a team to be successful, it needs a leader or leaders. And to be truly effective, those leaders need to possess certain qualities to have the most impact on everyone around them.

wanderlust-853581_1280

When we work together as a team, we can accomplish so much more.  Leaders must realize this and avoid falling into the trap of trying to do everything themselves. They must also acknowledge others and not allow their own ego to create barriers in the team atmosphere. When we all work together, the sky truly is the limit, and this benefits everyone – ourselves, our team and our clients!

What qualities do you think a good leader possesses?

Soft Hair, Soft Heart

Conditioning with Love and Compassion

What happens to your hair when it gets hard? It looks bad and breaks. The same thing happens to your heart. We have all been hurt by someone and have become bitter or resentful at times. The only way to soften your heart is to moisturize it with love and compassion.

As you watch the video below, think about how you can put into practice the exercises to help soften your heart.  And remember, just as Proverbs 4 says, “…Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

In this video, I discuss three ways to help you soften your heart:

  • On a piece of paper, write down everything you are angry or frustrated about.
  • Then, safely light it on fire and let those words become ashes.

What other strategies do you use to just let things go?

Where Are You Going?

The Daily Habit You Need to Help Get You to Your Destination

Do you ever wonder where you are going in life?  Wouldn’t it be easier if there was a road map, guiding us down the correct paths and avoiding those that would cause disappointment, harm, or trouble? Wouldn’t it be easier to tailor our daily habits and choices if we knew exactly where we’re headed?

clock-613842_1920

While we’re not born with a tangible map to hold in our hands, we are born with the guidance of something else – our Creator.  Instead of the broken puzzle pieces that we would be without Him, if we stop, listen, and trust in Him to lead us, we will find our greatest destinations in life.  With His help, we are no longer broken and jumbled, rather we are complete and will find great blessings.

Friends, now is the time to set goals, devise a plan, and establish new daily habits and routines to live the life that was originally mapped out for you.  But, no matter where life may take you, you must take time to stop and just be still for a little while – just pause.  Allow this time of reflection to help guide you to even greater blessings and an amazing year.

In this video, I discuss three ways to help you find your road map:

  • Take time every single day to hit the proverbial pause button and think about your life’s journey.
  • Listen to the voice within yourself.  Where is it leading you?
  • Remember the blessings and desires that have been placed in your heart.
